What to Expect and How to Prepare for Your Newborn Session
Congratulations!! There's nothing more exciting than having a new baby!! I'm so glad you have taken time to check out Kyle Photography. I really want to ensure that you have beautiful images of your little one that you will treasure for a lifetime.
* Book your session early to ensure availability. Since you're not sure exactly when your baby will arrive I recommend tentatively booking your newborn session based on your due date. As we get closer to that special day or soon after your baby arrives we can reserve a date and time that will work for you and your baby. We want to make sure we can capture those super cute, sleepy baby poses so it's best to book your appointment between 7-15 days of age. If they are older than 15 days they may be just a little more awake in their photos.
* My studio is located about 10 minutes outside of Sussex at my home in Berwick, New Brunswick. I like to keep my studio nice and warm for the newborn sessions. Babies tend to sleep better when the room is warmer and that makes the session go more smoothly. I usually tell parents to dress lightly so they can be comfortable during the sessions as well.
* Newborn Sessions usually last between 2-4 hours. We like to allow lots of time because the whole session will work around your baby's schedule. Babies eat often, so plan on feeding baby several times during the session. A full baby is a happy baby and there will be plenty of time to allow for feedings, diaper changes and anything else your little one decides is appropriate at the time.
* Please try to avoid snug clothing, socks, hats, etc the day of your session. These can cause red marks on your baby's skin which will be visible in your photos. It is best to dress your baby in a loose fitting sleeper that fastens in front so it can be easily removed prior to your session. It may also be helpful to bring a soother along. This can come in really handy when trying to keep baby sleepy and content between poses.
* I have an assistant that works with me during the newborn sessions. This is to help with posing and to ensure the safety of your little one. All props, handmade outfits and accessories will be provided for your use during the session.
* If there are older siblings that you would like included in the session we recommend bringing them at the beginning and only while they are being photographed. Two-four hours can be a long time for children to sit so it's usually best if someone can pick them up after their part of the session is complete. We try to keep the studio as quiet as possible so we can get the best photos of your sleepy baby.
* If you as parents, or other family members want to have special photos taken with baby we recommend wearing neutral, solid color clothing. Black tank tops or tube tops work great for new moms because babies love that skin to skin contact and this makes for a beautiful photo. If we do naked baby poses with parents we recommend bringing a change of clothes in case of little accidents.
* Lastly, we hope you can relax and enjoy your session as much as we will enjoy spending time with your little one.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I would love to have the opportunity to photograph your precious new baby!!
